Eight Things You Never Knew About Swimming Pools

It may not be warm enough outside to take a dip in your pool but here are some cool facts about pools (and spas) to tide you over until it is.

DIVING IN

Only 38% of pools have diving boards. Diving boards are a fun addition to pools that have a deep end.

EVERYTHING’S BIGGER IN TEXAS

The largest residential swimming pool is located in El Campo, Texas. It takes up over three acres and contains over 600,000 gallons of water! It also has a 21-foot slide and six water falls.

VINYL IS IN

Vinyl liner pools are the most common type of swimming pool.  While most above-ground swimming pools are lined with vinyl on the bottom of the pool, approximately one-third of in-ground pools are vinyl lined as well.

COOL HEAT

Some pool heat pumps can also cool your pool. Our JE Heat pump is capable of doing this.

JET-SET LIFE

Hot Tub “Jets” were developed by early aircraft machinists, the Jacuzzi Brothers, who also revolutionized the agricultural industry in 1925 by creating the first submersible pump. They took that technology to help a family member who developed rheumatoid arthritis, creating an aerating submersible pump to provide hydrotherapy treatments in the bathtub. This technology is the same that jets in modern day hot tubs use!

A CENTURY OF FILTRATION

Pool filters have been around for 105 years, almost as long as swimming pools have been. A pool filter allows you to reuse water in your pool, instead of constantly refilling with fresh water.

INTERNATIONAL HOT TUB PARTY

The World’s Most International Hot Tub title was awarded i2012 when 26 people from 26 different countries piled into a Jacuzzi to set a new Guinness World Record for the most nations represented in a hot tub.

AN OLDIE BUT A GOODIE

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) spa filters consist of a filter element that is millions of years old. Planktonic Diatoms have been around since before the dinosaurs! This material is found in abundance in oceans, fresh water, soils, and on damp surfaces. The hard-shelled material is crushed to form a fine white powdery substance that is incredibly effective at trapping particles in water. DE filters are still a common type of filter used today and can provide clear, glass-like water.
